April – 2024 Holidays and Observations
April is here. Longer days and warmer temps are on their way. There’s a whole lot to know about too.
Below you’ll find some month, week, and daylong celebrations/observations (mostly US based). These are holidays/observations related to the content of this site that we’ve selected to highlight. Maybe we missed some, maybe we added some you don’t think apply.
If you’d like to know about some Food/Drink/Travel related holidays during March, we have a list of those too over at our sister site, Grecobon.
Which observations will you be making note of this month?
Monthly Celebrations
National Volunteer Month
While it has nothing to do with money, products, or projects, volunteering benefits many. Doing something good for others or for your community helps everyone.
National Financial Literacy Month
Wherever you are in your financial literacy journey, this month serves as a good reminder to learn something new about saving money and investing in your future. The Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy is a great place to start.
National Internship Awareness Month
Internships are a great way for students or anyone training for a particular occupation to get their foot in the door. They help the intern see what things will be like when they enter the workforce. The relevant experience is also a great start to any recent grad’s resume. Internships are also a better way to see a potential employee’s abilities than an interview alone.
Unpaid internships, while the norm, aren’t doable for everyone. Unfortunately, I was unable to do one due to financial hardships and needing to work full-time hours during the summer just to make ends meet. If you are able to, or can save up enough to cover needed expenses, they are a great way to learn and prepare for your future.
If the company you work for doesn’t have internships, see what you can do about looking into the process. The next big contribution to your line of work could be in the hands of a future intern.
National Fair Housing Month
The Fair Housing Act (1968) protects Americans from discrimination due to color, race, national origin, religion, disability, and family status when purchasing, renting, or financing a home. The act later extended to sex. National Fair Housing Month aims to end housing discrimination and raise awareness of fair housing rights.
National Inventors Month
“Necessity is the mother of invention.”
Proverb
This month we are celebrating inventors and all the changes they’ve made to our everyday lives.
National Records and Information Management Month
Highlighting the importance of proper record keeping, National Records and Information Management Month emphasizes the importance of having organized records. Use this time to do some spring cleaning of your records, see what doesn’t need to be kept anymore, scan and shred what you can, keep any original raised stamp or signature pages, and make sure everything is easily accessible.
National Occupational Therapy Month
Recognizing Occupational Therapists this month and everything they add. Many of us may need to see one at one point in our lives, be it through injury or long-term wear on joints and muscles. These skilled healthcare workers help us on the path to becoming our normal selves again.
National Welding Month
Welding is such an important part of our everyday lives whether or not we realize it. These skilled professionals create many of the products we use daily and are responsible for the buildings we walk in and out of every day. Our economy would be at a standstill without their specialized skills.
As more and more advancing technologies emerge, more and more welders are needed to keep up with the demand for these pieces. This is a wonderful occupation to get into for those willing to learn and is a lifelong skill that can take you far.
