TapTes Wireless Charger Pad for Tesla Model 3:
While my Tesla Model 3 has plenty of ports available for charging, within the center console and behind for passengers in the back seat, I thought having wireless charging would be ideal. It was then I found this TapTes Wireless Charger Pad and figured I’d take a chance.
This product is listed as being able to charge your smart phone horizontally or vertically. You can charge two phones at the same time. This Charger Pad is compatible with the Tesla Model 3.
About TapTes
TapTes is a manufacturer and wholesaler for over 1,000 Tesla aftermarket accessories for Models S, 3, X, and Y. They have everything from seat covers to floor mats to chargers like the one I purchased.
It appears they are based in Hong Kong but have Customer Service reps available in New York, San Francisco, and Oslo, Norway.
Because they are based out of country, I had read some complaints/reviews about the time it takes to get orders. This is why I ordered from Amazon.
Main Issue: Cannot power phone while using navigation from front USB ports.
So, if you ever want to use navigation or anything of that sort while only plugged into the front USB ports, this will not be your best option. Your battery will drain, you can use your navigation, but your battery won’t charge, or possibly even hold.
It couldn’t power my Google Pixel 3 from the front USB while Waze was running. We just went on a 160 mile round trip using Waze for traffic. While in use with Waze and on the charger, my phone went from 49 to 41 on the front leg and then 19 to 8 on the return. Even with the screen turned off for the last few miles, I still lost battery power (9% to 8% over the last 20 miles).
I brought the pad inside and plugged it into a high powered wall adapter, and can confirm that it will charge at the higher rate, but you need to run the cable to the cigarette lighter (or some other higher powered charging adapter). The front USB just won’t cut it.
For fast charging, you need to plug into a 9V or 12V power adapter (QC3, for example). Anything 5V won’t charge fast enough to be able to use the phone while charging.

TapTes Wireless Charger Pad – Final Thoughts
Besides the issue I had with the navigation usage and battery draining, this has been quite the convenience. If you are willing to not use navigation while driving, its a great charger. Otherwise, you will need to plug into a 9V or 12V power adapter. For everyday usage, it will suffice, charging slowly, but still charging. This is great for road trips, especially with the dual charger for your passenger if they are not using their phone, they can charge while they nap. Alternatively if you are using the built in navigation system, this will work as well.
I just want to keep reminding everyone, as with most wireless charging devices, it is not a fast charge as opposed to a charging cable. However, a charging cable can get in the way, snagged on stuff, and be hard to control. With this wireless charging pad, you just lay the phone on it and go.
We also keep a charging adapter connected to the 12v outlet in the center console. This is for situations like a super low or totally dead battery or accidents on the road and preferring to use a navigation system other than the included Tesla maps.
